Food for Thought

Food for Thought

Some charities such as the one I'm working at seem to like to employ people with 'questionable integrity', who'll resort to underhand and unscrupulous means, without thinking twice, just to get rid of someone who's upright and above board. Ironically, some of these people seem to think that despite their evil inclinations, they'll still be protected by their gods or by something else. And even more ironically, some of them still think they'll go to heaven when they exit from this world. Do they really think they can escape retribution (or bad karma) or judgement despite all the despicable things they've done and their evil inclinations???!!!

Money that has been given to the organisation I work at for the purpose of pay adjustment for social workers has never been used for the said purpose. There are so many malpractices at my workplace. Sigh... Obviously, the management has not learnt its lesson from the previous saga. I think it's time for NCSS to step in again...

Colleagues who don't deserve to get promoted get promoted anyway. Colleagues who aren't suitable to be HODs get to be HODs (because of their connections) anyway. Colleagues who don't deserve unusual increments get them anyway. All my social work colleagues (including the HOD and Deputy HOD) who aren't suitable to be social work professionals get recruited and get to stay on anyway. The very few good ones (including me) get trampled upon and/or are treated like trash!! (天理何在?)And all of these things are happening because of my ED! I'm sure he won't do the same things he has been doing at my workplace with his own company!! Why? Because if he does, he'll be making very huge losses and gaining a bad reputation for his company!

The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

表面上的关心与发自内心的关心是有区别的。。。或许只有拥有智慧或拥有敏锐的第六感的人才能察觉得到吧。。。

Food for Thought

...there are three key steps to identifying your own core personal projects. First, think back to what you loved to do when you were a child...Second, pay attention to the work you gravitate to...Finally, pay attention to what you envy...
~ Susan Cain (Author of Quiet)

What did I love to do as a child? Well, as a child, I was a daredevil and I was more gutsy than my older brothers...I enjoyed adventures and exploring the unknown. At the same time, I enjoyed reading books quietly at one corner...

Food for Thought

Conforming to office norms that are clearly wrong is just not right, even if you conform because of peer pressure or because you want to be accepted. Conforming, in this context, can eventually kill your conscience and bring on judgement. It's only a matter of time...

Food for Thought

Just now, a colleague actually told me she had bought a box of non-halal candies for a Muslim colleague as a farewell gift!!! I couldn't believe it! Such insensitivity!!! And she actually said it was ok!!! But thankfully, after I gave her a piece of my mind, she changed her mind.

In a multi-racial country like Singapore, we have to exercise cultural and religious sensitivity. We cannot afford to be insensitive! And Chinese especially cannot afford to be insensitive, because we are the majority in Singapore and Muslims (Malays) are the minority. Otherwise, we may disintegrate as a society.
