I just met a lawyer who is such a snob. His arrogant manner is so offensive! If he thinks so highly of himself, then he shouldn't be providing pro bono services to those who cannot afford to engage lawyers. (I should have thrown him this question: I am just asking you a very simple question, don't you understand?) He should really be humbled by God!

Singaporeans Can't Speak Enough English?



I just saw an official email from someone in the United States, asking if my client could speak enough English. I was amazed because I didn't expect to be asked that question. My client will be attending university in the United States and so obviously she must be able to speak enough English. Singapore's official language is English and Singaporeans study English as first language in school. Therefore, Singaporeans generally are able to speak good enough English though the majority might prefer to speak Singlish.

I am the only one in my department who doesn't play politics and I have missed out on opportunities, etc, etc as a result. But at least my conscience is clear and my integrity is intact. I am sure someday I will have an employer who values my integrity as well as recognises my ability and appreciates my worth.
