Foreign Workers in Singapore

Foreigh workers may not necessarily be cheaper to employ if we factor in their level of productivity and so forth. A foreign worker colleague of mine is a case in point. She is not only very lazy and irresponsible, she has also apparently taken more days of leave than what she is  entitled to. Yet my big boss gave her 4x increments quite recently! She is definitely a 'financial drain' in my workplace. I won't be surprised if there are many foreign workers like her.

Overcrowding

Overcrowding seems to be getting worse over the years. If the Singapore Government is going to allow a steady influx of foreigners (FTs, foreign workers & permanent residents), I really can't imagine what will happen in the near future. Overcrowding is bad for one's health in the long-term. But what really irks me about overcrowding is that it actually slows me down. (I walk pretty fast and I can't stand having to slow down because of overcrowding.) I have nothing against foreigners at all. It's just that I really 'tak boleh tahan' overcrowding. Sigh...

Dignity Overdue

I would like to recommend one book to all of you out there. The book is entitled "Dignity Overdue" by John R. Gee and Elaine Ho. I am not sure if it's available anywhere else besides Singapore though. I believe it's a good read for anyone who's interested to know about the plight of foreign workers, particularly in the Singapore context. It might also be of interest to anyone who is keen to help foreign workers in the context of their own countries. Do check it out! :)
