French
'What day is it today?' in French is 'Quel jour sommes-nous?' 'Sommes-nous' means 'are we' and hence I find it amusing (in the positive sense). I still have the tendency to do a literal translation from English to French and that is something I need to avoid doing.

Food for Thought
When the other fellow acts that way,
He is ugly;
When you do, it's nerves.
When the other fellow is set in his ways,
He is obstinate;
When you do, it's firmness.
When the other fellow takes his time,
He is dead slow;
When you do, you are deliberate.
When the other fellow treats someone especially well,
He is toadying
When you do, it's tact.
When the other fellow finds fault,
He's cranky;
When you do, you are discriminating.
When the other fellow says what he thinks,
He is spiteful;
When you do, you are frank.

I was reading Essential French Grammar (written by Robin Adamson & Brigitte Edelston) a while ago and found out that French has (3) past tenses and that it doesn't have continuous tenses. I used to think that there are no past tenses in French, just like in the case of Bahasa Melayu. Hmmm...

2 Let's Talk 2
In the first episode of the new series, the topic was on friendship. Among the questions posed by the hosts, there was one specific question that caught my attention. It had to do with the issue of misunderstanding. Recently, I was misunderstood by someone. I tried to explain the situations that led to the misunderstanding, but somehow it seemed that my explanation had fallen on deaf ears. I wasn't trying to be defensive; I just didn't like to be misunderstood. I wonder what other people would do if they are in my shoes? Sigh...

French
In French, some adjectives are placed before nouns while others are placed after. In contrast, adjectives are always placed before nouns in English.
In French, the spelling of a verb changes according to the pronoun before it. For instance, the verb 'porter' is spelt as 'portes' when the pronoun 'you' is used. On the other hand, it is spelt as 'portons' when 'we' is used. In English, the verb 'wear' is used whether the pronoun is 'you' or 'we'.
There are other obvious differences between French and English, which I will probably mention some other time.

Doctors & Dentists
I have come across quite a lot of family doctors and dentists who do not abide by their professional code of ethics. The family doctors would try to prescribe medicines that I do not need; the dentists would tell me that they have to charge me the cost of fillings for two teeth because there is a cavity between the teeth (and yet they apparently dare not use a mirror to show me where the fillings have to be done).
Recently, I went to a dental clinic at Woodlands Civic Plaza and the owner of the clinic, who happened to be the one to attend to me, told me that one of my teeth had to be extracted and that he could not extract it the usual way because of the position of the tooth. As such, I would have to pay $1250 just to get it extracted. Of course I didn't believe him and so I went to seek a 2nd opinion. I specifically told the 2nd dentist that I couldn't trust dentists because of their mercenary and unscrupulous ways. I believed he knew what I was trying to drive at. In the end, he did a good job of extracting it the usual way without causing me unnecessary discomfort or pain.
I could have lodged a complaint with the Singapore Dental Council (SDC) against the 1st dentist (and the others who tried to overcharge me). However, I didn't because I didn't want to go through the hassle of lodging a complaint. Anyway, I hope that I won't come across any unscrupulous doctors or dentists again.
I may not exude an air of sophistication but that DOES NOT mean that I am uneducated or have little education. I am always amazed when people who do not know me think that I am really uneducated or have little education. (I suspect that those doctors and dentists who have tried to overcharge me, etc, might have thought so too.) Anyway, don't ever judge a book by its cover. That is a wise saying that should be heeded.

Inch Chua, a local singer-songwriter, said something that struck a chord with me. Overcrowding
Overcrowding seems to be getting worse over the years. If the Singapore Government is going to allow a steady influx of foreigners (FTs, foreign workers & permanent residents), I really can't imagine what will happen in the near future. Overcrowding is bad for one's health in the long-term. But what really irks me about overcrowding is that it actually slows me down. (I walk pretty fast and I can't stand having to slow down because of overcrowding.) I have nothing against foreigners at all. It's just that I really 'tak boleh tahan' overcrowding. Sigh...

Mental Illness
I have always thought that women are generally more prone to mental illness because they are emotionally more vulnerable. Just now I saw a mentally ill young man (who appeared to be in his mid thirties), which brought to mind the number of mentally ill men whom I came across in the past one year. What could cause these people (and many others) to go bonkers? Is it extreme suffering or pain? Is it mental or emotional anguish that could find no outlet? On reflection, I am thankful that I have the mental & emotional fortitude to withstand the many trials that have come my way thus far.

Women are generally more prone to osteoporosis and hence it's important to consume foods that are rich in calcium or take calcium supplements. Yesterday evening, I was having my massage and the masseur who attended to me said that osteoporosis could cause one's calf to twist outward. Geylang Checker
I just read the news on the abovementioned at yahoo.com.sg. It is basically a website that is dedicated to exposing men who cheat on their wives or girlfriends. As the name implies, checks are only carried out in Geylang. But there are so many ways men can cheat and there are so many places where men who cheat go to, and thus the effectiveness of Geylang Checker in exposing men who cheat is limited. (Nonetheless, I appreciate the founder's efforts and admire her courage.) Years ago, my friend and I visited Malaysia on a coach and there was this tour guide who told us that there were many Singaporean men who kept mistresses in Johor, Malaysia. Surprising?! Presidential Election 2011
I remember during my university days, I visited a church that was near my hostel. It happened to be on a Sunday when the holy communion was served. I saw Dr Tony Tan & his wife, who were seated just a few rows from the back. When it was time for holy communion to be served, he and his wife joined the queue. This left a deep impression on me, because I did not expect him to join the queue like the rest of the congregation. When it was his turn to take the bread and the cup from the priest, he actually knelt down to receive them. His attitude of humility is what I like about him. It is an apparently rare quality among politicians. Thus, I will be voting for him in the upcoming election. :)

Of course, at this point in time, I can't say for sure that the reduction in numbness was due to my using this comb. Thus, I will continue to use it and see for myself whether it is really that 神奇.

French 法文
Conversational French has a 'musical flow' - as I call it - and so I find it tough to speak in French, as I am so used to speaking in a flat tone. Furthermore, it seems to me that certain words have a nasal sound and that makes it even more challenging to speak in French. Nonetheless, I am confident that I should be able to overcome these obstacles in time to come.
I enjoy challenging myself and so I will definitely persevere!

Pray, find no fault with the man who limps
or stumbles along the road,
unless you have worn the shoes he wears,
or struggled beneath the road.
There may be tacks in his shoes that hurt,
though hidden away from view;
or the burden he bears, placed on your back,
might cause you to stumble too.
Don't sneer at the man who's down today,
unless you have felt the blow
that caused his fall, or felt the shame
that only the fallen know.
You may be strong, but still the blows
that were his, if dealt to you
in the selfsame way at the selfsame tme,
might cause you to stagger too.
Don't be too harsh witth the man who sins,
or pelt him with words or stones,
unless you are sure, yes, doubly sure
that you have not sins of your own.
For you know, perhaps, if the tempter's voice
should whisper as soft to you
as it should to him when he went astray,
'twould cause you to falter too.

My Thoughts
I am not against the influx of foreigners and new immigrants to Singapore per se. However, as a Singaporean, I am concerned that Singaporeans will soon become a minority in our country of birth. If that ever happens, will our collective voice be heard? Will our interests matter to the government? I have always been proud and am still proud to be a Singaporean. However, over the years, I have become more and more disheartened with how things are developing so much so that I am already beginning to think of emigration. Sigh...

General Election 2011
Tomorrow is Polling Day. Who will get my vote does not depend on the political party that he belongs to. Ultimately, the deciding factor for me is whether the MP genuinely cares for his constituents. If he only appears to be 'active' in his constituency just before election but he is not present during Meet-the-People sessions, then I can't say that he really has a heart for the people that he is supposed to serve.

By shifting in the middle of a weakening thought to one that strengthens, you raise your energy vibration, and strengthen yourself and the immediate energy field.

Self-Esteem
Labeling children negatively when they are unable to excel in a traditional school environment can create a weakened sense of self that lasts a lifetime. Labeling children as exemplary when they do fit into the system can be just as damaging, because they might not actually have learned anything more than how to use their inherent abilities to play a system. They may have also learned that they must perform to feel good about themselves. True self-esteem comes not from proving yourself but from knowing yourself - knowing yourself on a deep level and appreciating who you are.

Food for Thought

Our Thoughts

Field of Intention
By raising your energy to a vibrational match with the field of intention, you're strengthening your immune system and increasing the production of well-being enzymes in your brain.

I Will Be Well
I have just composed the chorus of this song. I like the melody very much. :) The reason why I have started writing this song is because yesterday I suddenly recalled a dream that I had many years ago. In that dream, I saw three groups of people: the blind, the prisoners and the mentally unwell. At that time, it seemed that God wanted me to serve these three groups of people. I have already served the first two groups, and so I might be serving the third group of people in the near future. There is also a possibility that I might continue writing songs of healing.

I saw no likeness to Him in you today.
And since I shall not pass your way again,
It matters not that yesterday His light shone in you,
Or that tomorrow you may want to make amends.
I passed your way today.

Success
Success is speaking words of praise,
In cheering other people's ways,
In doing just the best you can,
With every task and every plan.
It's silence when your speeches would hurt,
Politeness when your neighbour's curt,
It's deafness when the scandal flows,
And sympathy with other's woes.
It's loyalty when duty calls,
It's courage when disaster falls,
It's patience when the horns are long,
It's found in laughter and in song.
It's in the silent time of prayer,
In happiness and in despair,
In all of life and nothing less,
We find the thing we call success.

Breaking Night by Liz Murray

The Significance of Numbers
Since some years ago, I have always been interested in numbers. Incidentally, I remember reading an article that says something to the effect that people who have a keen interest in numbers have autistic tendency. :P Numbers have their significance in the bible. Yesterday, it was 12th of February (2). The number 12 represents authority while the number 2 represents divine confirmation. Yesterday, I had a dream (I often have 'symbolic dreams'.), which was significant to me, especially because it was 12th of February.

Self-Hypnosis Revolution
The author of this book, Forbes Robbins Blair, talks about how we can attach symbolic meanings to our daily activities in order to reprogram our minds, thereby effecting changes that we would like to see in our lives, without having to go into a trance. It's amazing!

Cellular Memory (What's Your Body Telling You?)
"...a cellular memory. Our memories, habits, interests, and experiences are stored in all the cells of our body, not just in the brain. (Incidentally, this term was coined by pioneer biologists, Candace Pert and Bruce Liption.) These can be triggered into conscious memory under certain circumstances."
~~Author Steve Sisgold
It's unbelievable that such information is stored in ALL the cells in our bodies.
Dare to Dream
I have been studying Chinese names (on my own) for a few years now. Specifically, my area of interest is in the number of strokes of a person's given name. The conclusion I draw from my study is that a person's name plays a crucial role in determining his destiny and so forth more than anything else.

What's Your Body Telling You?
"...we have been 'emphasizing the specialized tendencies of the left hemisphere of the brain...at the expense of trans-rational forms of knowing such as intuition...To the degree we emphasize rational development at the expense of WBC (whole-body consciousness), we limit our somatic intelligence.' Emotional Handicap vs Physical Handicap
To me, emotional handicap is worse than physical handicap. Physical handicap only restricts a person's movements. Emotional handicap, on the other hand, could cause a person's relationships to suffer and could be a barrier to his overall well-being.
